Knowledge Transfer in Sudan
Ranked 167 out of 188 countries in terms of development by UNDP in 2015, Sudan is classified a country with low human development, and has been for many years. However, at a recent conference in Sudan organised by the Sudanese Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, Prof. Allam Ahmed gave a keynote speech on how countries like Sudan can attain sustainable development without a strong technological and knowledge base. In his speech, Prof. Ahmed highlighted the need for a new partnership to bridge the knowledge divide, especially in relation to the way the development sector approaches selection, management and use of knowledge in policy formation and implementation.
The conference had over 200 participants including representatives from international organisations such as the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the World Health Organisation and the Islamic Development Bank.
Allam Ahmed also spoke at the National Council for Research on this subject, discussing how ‘Knowledge is the key for achieving sustainable development and changing the world: ideas for Sudan’ as well as at the University of Khartoum on knowledge management more generally.
In addition, Prof. Ahmed gave a talk at the Sudan Startup Hub on ’10 steps for a successful startup for young entrepreneurs’ and appeared on Sudanese National Television, giving an interview about ‘Knowledge Transfer and Brain Drain’ (You Tube video in Arabic).
Prof. Ahmed said; “The Sudanese Diaspora can help achieve sustainable development in Sudan and I am looking forward to the launch of Sudan Knowledge in the next few months. Sudan Knowledge will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and information about Sudan and actively promotes the potential of the Sudanese Diaspora to help achieve sustainable development in Sudan”.
